We are delighted to share that IWASS 2025, co-organized by the University of Stuttgart Institute of Automation and Software Systems, was a resounding success! Held on January 25th and 26th, 2025, at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida, the workshop took place in conjunction with the RAMS 2025 conference, bringing together leading experts in autonomous system safety, reliability, and security.
Attendees had the privilege of engaging with esteemed experts in autonomous system safety, who delivered insightful presentations on cutting-edge topics. This year’s lineup included:
- Leila Meshkat – Associate Division Chief, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
- Michael Woon – CEO & Founder, Retrospect
- Simon Burton – Chair of Systems Safety, University of York
- Ryan Yee – Staff Operational Safety Manager, Zoox
- Mohammad Pourgol – Associate Professor, University of Maryland & Director of Design for Safety and Reliability, Schneider Electric
- Philip Koopman – Associate Professor, Carnegie Mellon University
- Ronald Boring – Human Factors Manager, Idaho National Laboratory
Their expertise sparked engaging discussions on human factors, verification and validation, risk and reliability analysis, societal acceptance, and regulatory challenges in autonomous systems.
In addition to the workshop, we also hosted a panel session at RAMS 2025, fostering insightful discussions on the future of autonomous system safety and its evolving landscape.
What’s Next?
We are excited to continue the conversation at ESREL & SRA-E 2025, where we will host both a panel session and a special session on Safety, Reliability, and Security (SRS) of Autonomous Systems from June 15–19, 2025, in Stavanger, Norway.
Stay tuned for announcements on IWASS 2026, where we will build on this year’s achievements and explore new frontiers in risk sciences!
