The trend in industrial automation systems is to employ decentralized solution for processing functions. Hence, modern field bus systems are being employed instead of conventional connection techniques. By this a higher flexibility and a considerable reduction on design and installation costs can be achieved. In this experiment, one of the most popular field bus systems – CAN Bus System – is being investigated.

The goal of the experiment is to provide insight into the field bus system CAN (Controller Area Network). The task is to analyse the CAN protocol and to design the CAN network of a simple automotive electronic system, consisting of an indicator, power window and side mirror adjustment. This task is done by using the simulation and development tool CANoe. A demonstration plant is available for validating the designed network.

Prerequisites: Basics on network topologies and CAN protocol
